Communication Repair in Virtual Academic Discourse during COVID-19 Pandemic

Interaction through communication remains crucial in education. However, this became more magnified when academic institutions shifted to online learning during the COVID-19 pandemic. This is reason why study was conducted explore on types, mechanisms, and reasons behind phenomenon. The employed Corpus-Based Discourse Analysis understand four-recorded virtual discourses of AB English Language Studies as main source data. These were transcribed analyzed using analytical framework Miles Huberman (1994) find out existing types mechanisms repairs. In addition, participants interviewed these used discourses. Findings revealed that there are three repairs utilized by participants, including repetition, code-switching (substitution), modification. include self-initiated self-repair other-repair, breakdown demands repair discourse associated with barriers, comprehension constraints, low self-esteem common reasons. Thus, it concluded opens opportunities eliminate breakdown, especially for those people who know strategies.
